Ethics and the Eight-Fold Path of Buddhism

“When the driving force of our actions is wholesome, our actions will tend automatically to contribute to others’ well-being.” - His Holiness, The Dalai Lama

The Eight Fold Path is the heart of Buddhist ethical practice. In this class, we will examine how the Eight Fold Path can inform our responsibility to clients, students, supervisees, research participants, and to our professions. This framework then provides a strong support in the clinical setting - and even gives the practitioner a new way to approach therapeutic interventions. The steps of Eight Fold Path do not interfere with any other ethical system - rather it enhances and provides valuable insight and nuance to current systems. We will learn what this Buddhist code of ethics has to teach us about service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity and competence.

This class is also available as part of our Distance Learning series indicated by (DL) below.
