General Interest Workshops

These workshops are separate from the principal training programs, however some of these classes do go into aspects of the training programs in more depth. You do not have be enrolled in the training programs to take them.

Some workshops are offered weekly or on-going. These classes provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of material already touched on in the training programs. They are designed to provide ongoing support to deepen specific parts of one's journey. These classes are sometimes offered several times a year in a class series of 4-6 meetings. There may be a reduced fee for repeating students, but unlike the trainings, these classes are not offered for 10% of the original tuition on a repeating basis.

Dreams

Wednesdays, Feb 20, Apr 23, Jun 18, Aug 6, 2008
7:30pm to 9:30pm
San Francisco
$220
Early Registration Discount $200 by Jan. 30, 2008

Students who wish to continue their studies with dreams can return to the class at a reduced tuition rate of $100

The information we receive in dreams can serve as a vehicle for deepening our relationship to our deeper self. The tremendous amount of guidance we receive every night usually escapes us – either because we do not recognize its significance or because we do not know how to translate the information held in dream images and states.

In this class, you will learn how to explore the meanings held in dreams from several different vantage points. An innovative method for tracking energetic patterns held in dreams will be presented here. You will learn how to use these energetic patterns as a blueprint for understanding normally hard-to-access information held deep within the self.

Taught by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D. in San Francisco.

Relationships I & II

Relationships with others have a tremendous amount to teach us about ourselves. By exploring the dynamics of our relationships with those who have impacted our life deeply, we come to know ourselves better.

Most of us are engaged in patterns of relating whose deeper implications we only dimly understand. This class offers tools to help tease out patterns, motivations and intentions underlying the most significant relationships in our lives. This includes patterns of relating which are easeful as well as those that are not.

These classes are designed to help ‘dissolve karma’ in that you will be able to understand how to step out of automated responses and make informed choices about the way you react in relationship dynamics. We will specifically explore the nature of energy exchange between individuals or between individuals and groups in order to create change at the deepest levels of relating.

You do not have to be part of a relationship, or bring a partner to benefit from these workshops.

Prerequisite: Introduction to the Shamanic Journey or equivalent. Please visit our Complete Calendar for details, or contact us at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

Relationships I: Undertanding Karmic Patterns through Relationship

Wednesdays, March 5, March 19, April 2, April 16, 2008
7:30pm - 9:30pm
$220
Early Registration Discount $200 by Feb 13, 2008

In Relationships I, we will explore the nature of our birth family dynamics. These dynamics help define and articulate the karmic patterns we spend most of our lives trying to understand. We will look at the nature of karma, and seek to resolve the kinds of misunderstandings that arise regarding karma. We will explore how our relationship with our deeper self is revealed through our reactions to the patterns of relating established in our birth families.

Relationships II: Transforming Karmic Patterns
Wednesdays, April 30, May 14, May 28, June 11, 2008
7:30pm - 9:30pm
$220
Early Registration Discount $200 by April 9, 2008

In Relationships II, we will expand on the information we have attained in Relationships I. We will focus on how later life relationships offer us further insight regarding patterns we have established in our birth families. In particular, we will focus on the way we use personal power. We will explore how patterns regarding the use of personal power are established in childhood and how these patterns are reflected in our later relationships. We will seek to understand how transforming these methods of cycling power changes the nature of our relationships – and thus our karmic conditioning.

The Eight-fold Path: Eastern Ethics in the Western Therapeutic Environment

The Ethics Course You Have Been Waiting For!

“When the driving force of our actions is wholesome, our actions will tend automatically to contribute to others’ well-being. The more this is our habitual state, the less likely we are to react badly when provoked.”
- His Holiness, The Dalai Lama

The Eight Fold Path is the heart of Buddhist ethical practice. It provides an excellent vehicle for professionals working in any of the healing, spiritual or teaching arts to enhance their understanding and application of their profession from an ethical point of view. The paradigm of the Eight Fold Path provides the practitioner with a methodology for engaging in a practice of ethics on a personal level. This framework then provides a strong support in the clinical setting - and even gives the practitioner a new way to approach therapeutic interventions. The steps of Eight Fold Path do not interfere with any other ethical system - rather it enhances and provides valuable insight and nuance to current systems.

The eight steps of the Eight Fold Path include: Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration. Examination of each one of these steps provides a framework for infusing new dialogue and perspective on the role of ethics in the counseling professions.

In this class, we will examine how the Eight Fold Path can inform our responsibility to clients, students, supervisees, research participants, and to our professions. We will learn what this Buddhist code of ethics has to teach us about service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity and competence.

We promise - this is not an ethics class you will want to race through. This is a class which will help inform your practice for years to come.

Integrating a Shamanic Perspective into Your Counseling Practice

In recent years, the study of shamanic healing has become quite popular. Many therapists and other health professionals are finding shamanic methods, developed over thousands of years ago, still relevant today.

This two-day workshop is for people interested in learning simple, yet highly effective shamanic techniques that they can apply to their work in counseling or other helping fields. By the end of this course, you will have a basic understanding of shamanic perspectives, and a means for applying these ancient skills to your counseling practice.

In this workshop, you will receive an overview of shamanism and core shamanic principles. You will also learn how to apply these principles in a therapeutic context. By examining physical, emotional, and psychological disorders from a shamanic perspective, you will gain a broader context for understanding the nature of physical and mental disease. In addition, you will be given new tools for dealing with pathologies, and most importantly, you'll gain new perspectives on the origin and function of disorders.

The shamanic perspective provides new ways of evoking and dealing with the core issues of clients. It de-pathologizes illness and requires less dependence on diagnoses as a means of understanding a client. As a result of this workshop, you will gain greater confidence in your intuitive abilities, and your clients will benefit as you help them develop a greater understanding of themselves.

In this workshop, you will also learn:

  • techniques for working successfully with highly defended clients
  • how to create a zone or container of safety that will enable your clients to trust you more
  • tools for reducing the overload and burn-out that often comes with taking too much responsibility for your client's healing process
  • how to access your client's inner wisdom so that wisdom can become part of the therapeutic process
  • ways for reducing transference
  • to develop trust in your own intuitive abilities so you can use this insight to help your clients
  • how to maintain your energy and productivity when working with clients

This workshop is an abbreviated version of our Applied Shamanism Program. It is designed to initiate you into shamanic perspectives of healing, and provide practical methods for applying what you have learned. It is a good first step in learning about shamanism and an excellent precursor to our Applied Shamanism Program.

This workshop is taught by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D . The cost is $275.

If you'd like to expand your shamanic skills or learn more about shamanism, please visit our Applied Shamanism Program section for more information.

Integrating Depth Hypnosis into Your Counseling Practice

This workshop is for therapists, social workers and mental health counselors who want to expand their capacity to help their clients. It is an overview of specific techniques drawn from Depth Hypnosis-an innovative and highly effective therapeutic model that combines elements of buddhism, hypnotherapy, shamanism, transpersonal psychology, and energy medicine.

Developed by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., Depth Hypnosis works quickly and delivers long-lasting results. What makes Depth Hypnosis different from other therapeutic approaches is its ability to effect change at the root of clients' issues. In this way, clients have the opportunity to work through emotional, mental, and physical issues that may have been with them all of their lives.

Depth Hypnosis is experiential. It looks at the whole person and seeks a permanent solution that involves the client in the discovery process. Depth Hypnosis helps the client see not only the source of their issue, but the overall damage it is causing and ways it is persisting through unconscious avoidance and denial. Once the client has achieved this understanding, he or she is ready to continue the work of healing himself long after his therapeutic work has concluded. It should also be noted that as a therapeutic approach, Depth Hypnosis does not interfere with other therapeutic models. Instead, it has been designed to expand and inform them.

In this two-day workshop, you'll learn:

  • how to uncover your client's core issues more quickly
  • new ways of dealing with client defenses
  • techniques for working successfully with highly defended clients
  • how to create a zone or container of safety that will enable your clients to trust you more
  • tools for reducing the overload and burn-out that often comes with taking too much responsibility for your client's healing process
  • how to access your client's inner wisdom so that wisdom can become part of the therapeutic process
  • ways for reducing transference
  • to develop trust in your own intuitive abilities so you can use this insight to help your clients
  • how to maintain your energy and productivity when working with clients
  • new approaches and techniques for dealing with your toughest patients
  • proven methods for creating positive changes in your clients' lives

This workshop provides an overview of some of the fundamental principles used in Depth Hypnosis. It is an excellent introduction to Depth Hypnosis and a precursor to our Depth Hypnosis Certification Program. Upon completion of this two-day workshop, you will have gained a broader understanding of the psyche, and you'll be ready to incorporate some key Depth Hypnosis principles into your current practice.

This workshop is taught by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D . The cost is $275.
