BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY STUDIES

The Buddhist Psychology Studies program is for those who would like to understand the deeper workings of the mind and heart from a non-western perspective.

No previous knowledge of Buddhism is necessary. Those who do have experience with Buddhist practices will find fresh understanding the application of Buddhist thought to western therapeutic paradigms this program provides. This program is for those who wish to deepen their understanding of themselves and the meaning of their lives. It is an excellent vehicle for professionals working in any of the healing, spiritual or teaching arts to enhance their understanding and application of their profession. The concepts presented in this program do not, in any way, conflict with any healing, spiritual or teaching paradigm.

MORE
Although Buddhism is primarily viewed as a religion, it is, at its heart, a very sophisticated system for understanding the deeper workings of the self. Different schools of Buddhist thought focus on different aspects of practice. This program is non-dogmatic. It is “pan-Buddhist” as it draws from wisdom that has been developed in several different schools. Mindfulness practice, so well developed in Zen Buddhism, is viewed through the lens of its capacity to break up repetitive “mind-loops” which interfere with happiness. Deity meditation practices articulated in some schools of Tibetan Buddhism are examined for their ability to help infuse alternative mind states into a mind locked in self-centeredness. Texts drawn from several different traditions will be examined for their contribution to the understanding of different aspects of the mind and heart.

The Buddhist Psychology Studies program is not exclusively practice-oriented, although you will be assisted in developing a daily meditation practice. You will experience how Buddhist practice transforms your own internal disruptions. Although you will be exposed to different sutras and mantras designed to create changes on the deeper levels of the self, the focus will not be so much in memorization and repetition as on application and change-creation tailored to the particular types of imbalances of the western mind.

The Buddhist Psychology Studies Program is designed to provide an understanding of the processes of the mind from a Buddhist Perspective. One of the primary aims of the program is to support a sangha, a group of like-minded individuals, in an on-going way to deepen the teachings over time. Students have reported how accessible the information in this program is and that the approach of Buddhist Psychology Studies allows them to apply esoteric principles in a practical and useful way in their everyday lives.

The Buddhist Psychology Studies Program is divided into two different parts: three Foundation Courses of study – Level I, II & III and the Continuing Studies Modules . Once you have taken the Foundation Courses, you can sign up for any of the Continuing Studies Modules whenever they are offered. The Continuing Studies Modules are offered on a rotating basis. Please check the Calendar or email us to find out which module is being offered.
