Spiritual Emergency occurs when someone becomes overwhelmed by an encounter with a transcendental experience. These encounters can occur in different types of circumstances. They can occur in an unbidden way or they can be a result of spiritual, psychological, or emotional exploration. People can respond to these encounters in a variety of ways: from a state of collapse to a state of acceleration and everywhere in-between. In this talk, we will explore the phenomenon of Spiritual Emergency and learn how to recognize it. We will look at how various Buddhist practices can help bring balance for people who are trying to integrate this experience, both within themselves and for those around them.

Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D. is the developer of Depth Hypnosis, a spiritual counseling model that is highly effective in helping people address Spiritual Emergency. Isa is also the Founding Director of the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, a school for consciousness studies in Berkeley, CA, and the author of Coming to Peace and Return to the Great Mother. In addition to her teaching schedule that includes teaching classes in Applied Buddhist Psychology, Applied Shamanism, Integrated Energy Medicine and Depth Hypnosis, she has active practices in Depth Hypnosis and Applied Shamanic Counseling in San Francisco, CA.
