Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D.: Teachings of the Mahamudra (Live Stream)

Registration fee: $30
Registration before May 25: $25

Sunday, June 25, 2023
5:00 pm – 6:30 pm Pacific (8:00 pm – 9:30 pm Eastern)

We are excited to welcome back Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D. to the Sacred Stream Speaker Series! To celebrate his latest book, Stages of the Path and the Oral Transmission: Selected Teachings of the Geluk School, a masterful translation and part of the Library of Tibetan Classics, Jinpa will give a talk on the teachings of the Mahamudra. In his humble way, Jinpa will offer insight and clarity to these advanced teachings, making them accessible even to those new to Buddhist thought. There will be a Q&A with Jinpa following the talk. This event is a fundraiser for his former monastery, Gaden Shartse Dokhang.

Thupten Jinpa was educated in the Tibetan monastic system, where he received the highest degree of Geshé Lharam. Jinpa also holds a BA in philosophy and a Ph.D. in religious studies, both from the University of Cambridge, England. Since 1985, he has been the principal translator to the Dalai Lama. His works include Self, Reality and Reason in Tibetan Philosophy, several volumes of translations in The Library of Tibetan Classics, and the modern biography Tsongkhapa: A Buddha in the Land of Snows. He is currently the president and the editor-in-chief of the Institute of Tibetan Classics, and he also chairs the Mind and Life Institute and the Compassion Institute.

Praise for Stages of the Path:
“Carefully selected, and wonderfully translated, this group of texts gives us the very raison d’etre for the importance and prominence of this lineage. The crucial texts are all here, skillfully chosen, beautifully rendered and annotated. If you read only one book of key Ganden Oral Tradition teachings, it should be this one!” – Jan Willis, author of Dharma Matters: Women, Race, and Tantra

Please note: With registration, a recording of the event will be available to view if you are not able to join live. Also, be sure to check the correct time for your time zone.
