Special Announcement: Sacred Stream Offering Series of Workshops in Iowa’s Quad Cities Region This May
Starting May 9, Sacred Stream will be offering some of their most popular workshops in Iowa’s Quad Cities region. Courses available include: Coming to Peace: Methods of Conflict Resolution (Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Hiawatha), Expanding Consciousness: The Four Immeasurables Resolution (Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Hiawatha), Embracing the Sacred Feminine (Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, Wheatland), Consciousness and Integrated Energy Medicine (Bettendorf Public Library, Bettendorf), and The Path of Service and the Nature of Suffering (Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat, Wheatland).
At the Sacred Stream, we are inspired by the many kind and dedicated people doing good work in the world and we try to do our part. Our intention is to provide a place for people to explore ideas, join together in community, and provide a platform for thought-leaders to share their insights. To this end, we have worked hard to bring programs to the larger community; some at low or no cost, as well as provide scholarships to those who need them. We have provided space clearings, free events, low cost clinics and Depth Hypnosis services. This year and the past several years, the Sacred Stream has operated at a deficit. This means that what we bring in through classes and other events does not cover our operating costs. In order to continue the work we are doing, we need your help.
On Friday, November 11, Dr. Joanna Adler will present the results of a pilot study – “Can Depth Hypnosis Heal Mood Disorders?” – that examines the efficacy of Depth Hypnosis in the treatment of the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as show an increase in experience of well-being. The hypothesis of the study was that symptoms from the three mood disorders would go down, and experience of well-being would rise. The results support this hypothesis.
Sacred Stream is committed to helping build more conscious families. Our Empowered Living programs are all designed to help you understand yourself and others better. This summer, our Summer Parenting series can help you begin at the beginning – to understand birth from a new point of view with Tracking Spirit in the Birth Environment. And help you all the way to the end – by offering you resources to help you through all the years of parenting with the Conscious Parenting workshop.
Windham Hill and Sony recording artist Lisa Lynne is joined by multi-instrumentalist Aryeh Frankfurter for an evening of traditional instrumental music from Sweden and Ireland, as well as heartwarming original compositions blended with stories of humor and adventure. Together they play two Celtic harps, the rare Swedish nyckelharpa, Ukrainian bandura, cittern, and more. Lisa Lynne’s recordings have repeatedly placed in the Top 10 and Top 20 on the Billboard New Age music charts. The Sacred Stream’s own award-winning songwriter and recording artist, Laura Chandler, opens the show.
Sunday, April 10th at 7:00 pm, Robert Thurman returns to the Sacred Stream Center for a talk on Lam Rim, the three principle aspects of the path to enlightenment based on Atiśa’s 11th-century root text and Je Tsongkahpa’s The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. Dr. Thurman has a deep understanding of this text and will share his insights covering topics that include the preciousness of human life, the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, and the intention of the bodhisattva. We hope you will join us for this every special evening.
Join spiritual master Geshe Pema Dorjee for this series of teachings on compassion, mindfulness and leading a happier and more engaged life. He will be making appearances in the Bay Area, Mount Shasta, Nevada City, Auburn, and Santa Cruz – and the tour begins at the Sacred Stream Center with a special talk, Compassion in Action.
So many of you have generously given us your time, your art, your money, and your kindness over the years. Thank you! Because of you, it is possible for us to help preserve wisdom for the sake of healing the planet and to further compassionate consciousness in the world. Without community, without your help, the Sacred Stream could not continue. For this reason, we humbly ask that you remember us this year as you make your tax-deductible contributions.
One of India’s renowned music masters, sarod virtuoso Rajeev Taranath, brings a rare performance of classical South Asian music to the Sacred Stream Center on Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in Berkeley.

Accompanied by percussionist Vikas Yendluri on the tabla, he will perform ragas: intricate, colorfully improvised melodies and rhythms.
